Penn College of Technology and DBi Services Collaborate on New Apprenticeship

Pennsylvania College of Technology and DBi Services have joined to produce the first Infrastructure Maintenance Technician registered apprenticeship program of its kind in the United States.

The multistate program will provide critical training and a professional career path for motivated people seeking careers in saving lives while protecting and enhancing the nation’s infrastructure.

DBi Services provides a full suite of quality infrastructure maintenance, operations and management services. It just celebrated its 40th year in business and continues to be a key leader in the industry. DBi’s clients include government agencies, utilities, private industries, railways, retailers and other infrastructure owners.

The apprenticeship will include coursework for key services including roadway maintenance, railroad, aquatics, vegetation management and more. “It is DBi’s hope that the program will encourage new recruits to join the company and serve as an opportunity for tenured employees to enhance their skills and learn new ones as they cross-train in various disciplines.” said Nicole LeFante, Training Manager at DBi Services.

With multiple programs serving more than 20 companies across the commonwealth, Penn College is a leader in developing, registering and executing innovative apprenticeship training.

“This program reflects our continued focus on company-centered apprenticeship,” said Chris Ray, executive director at the college’s Workforce Development department. “We worked to create a custom occupation tailored to DBi Services’ precise needs and will incorporate a blend of remote interactive delivery with some training both on campus and at the company location.”

Following the December approval by the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Office, the plan is to begin registrations in other states to serve DBi’s large footprint. The college’s novel training delivery structure allows multiple sites to participate from any location with limited travel expenses. The program is expected to launch in the first half of 2019.
