DBi Supports Third Annual Leadership Academy for Student Leaders
Once again, DBi Services is one of the lead sponsors for the Third Annual Leadership Academy, which was held during the week of June 7th in St. Petersburg, FL. The Leadership Academy is organized by the Teen Safe Driving Coalition of Florida, which is made up of members from multiple Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS Agencies, State and Local Department of Transportation Officials, multiple non-profit road safety advocacy organizations and several businesses, all of whom are concerned with highway safety.
Richard Fimbel, Emergency Incident Manager, from the I-75 Project Office, is a Board Member and has been an active member of the Teen Safe Driving Coalition for several years. During this year’s Academy, Richard presented on the topic of the “Move Over Law” and served as a Mentor, assisted the students throughout the Academy as they planned out safe driving events they intend to hold in their school when they return in the fall.
This year 23 schools and 15 counties were represented by 56 students from all across Florida. Teens are educated over the course of four days in many different aspects of safe driving. This conference doesn’t just focus on the necessities of wearing a seatbelt, pedestrian/bicycle safety and nighttime safety, it also highlighted the dangers of distracted driving, with a major emphasis on not texting and driving.
Over the next school year, Richard will continue to work with some of the high school student leaders and school administrators at their high schools as they plan, prepare, and hold their events throughout the 2015 – 2016 school year.
