DBi awarded largest-ever collectively led HFST projects
On May 6, 2016 DBi Services was awarded the largest High Friction Surfacing Treatment (HFST) projects ever collectively let by a US highway agency.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) awarded three HFST projects in its Districts 3, 4 and 6, with a total volume of HFST to be installed of 1,100,000 square yards. DBi anticipates having crews in Georgia working on this $30 million large-scale installation until June of 2017.
The award came after lengthy negotiations with GDOT to modify their application specification due to various installations awarded since 2003 not meeting the project expectations of the agency.
DBi made a concerted effort with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as the lead agency to improve the State’s HFST specification. The State of Georgia made the final decision in March to modify their specification to reduce the allowable volume of manual installations permitted, and increase the volume of automated applications.
This was only possible because DBi was able to demonstrate in countless examples the quality, consistency, safety and speed of an automated application process.
