DBi awarded first NJ county project for HFST
DBi was awarded the first New Jersey county project for HFST. Somerset County successfully applied for a $311,000 grant for this project through the NJTPA’s 2013 Local Safety Program. The project will implement a series of safety upgrades to reduce wet weather crashes along a winding segment of Chimney Rock Road (CR 525) from Thompson Avenue to Gilbride Road in Bridgewater that exhibited crash rates above state averages according to 2008-10 crash data.
Improvements will include the installation of HFST, high visibility pavement markings and centerline rumble strips, as well as upgrades to existing guide rails. The project area falls within a 1.4-mile segment of Chimney Rock Road that exhibited crash rates above state averages according to 2008-10 crash data.
The use of HFST is a strategic element to reduce and potentially stop dangerous run-off-the-road skid-related crashes.
