“A Cost-Effective and Time-Sensitive Safety Solution” — Case study on HFST Project
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently released a case study on the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) implementation of high friction surfacing treatment (HFST) along a one-mile section of US 25 in Greenville, South Carolina. This particular section of roadway was notorious for its high crash rate, notably truck rollovers in wet weather.
The study highlights the reduction in crashes, the cost benefit and the time savings over the planned reconstruction project that was shelved because of the outstanding performance of the HFST process.
Read the full case study here which also includes how before and after studies evaluating this and other HFST project’s successes reveal significant crash reduction and safety benefits, proving HFST to be a very cost-effective safety countermeasure.
