Over the past hundred-plus years, invasive/exotic species have been spreading at an alarming rate, with major invasions changing the natural diversity and balance of our ecological communities globally. These drastic changes threaten the survival of many plants, crops and animals as the weeds compete with native plants for space, water, nutrients and sunlight.

The goal of an invasive species and exotic weed program is to target the areas where fast-spreading species threaten to take over right-of-ways and move into farmlands, forest areas and private property. Government agencies in countries worldwide have compiled lists of invasive/exotic species, which have caused billions of dollars of damage within their geographic locations, and in many instances are required by law to be controlled or eradicated.
